DEBASAFE® autocash: Tamper-evident safe bags for smart safes, deposit safes and cash recyclers
DEBASAFE® autocash by Anton Debatin GmbH is a dedicated range of tamper-evident security bags (safe bags) for automated cash management. The bags are integrated directly into smart safes, deposit safes and cash recyclers from various manufacturers and are sealed automatically inside the device. As a developer and manufacturer with its own special machine construction in Bruchsal, Germany, Debatin adapts every bag to the device mechanics and to the respective welding or adhesive sealing process.
Automated cash management: a closed cash cycle in retail
Retail chains, branch networks and hospitality businesses are increasingly relying on automated cash processes to speed up end-of-day reconciliation and to reduce counting errors and cash discrepancies. Smart safes and deposit safes take banknotes out of circulation directly at the point of sale (POS) or in the back office.
To keep cash transport to the cash-in-transit (CIT) company secure from end to end, DEBASAFE® autocash receives the banknotes directly inside the device. The bag is sealed automatically before it is removed. CIT crews or staff only ever remove a sealed unit. The cash stays within a tamper-evident, closed system (closed loop) without direct manual access.
What a tamper-evident cash bag inside the device has to deliver
A tamper-evident cash bag for deposit safes is more than a conventional safe bag. It has to withstand mechanical tensile forces and, at the same time, reliably reveal any attempt at tampering. The key requirements include:
- Clear tamper evidence: Mechanical, thermal or chemical opening attempts must become irreversibly visible.
- Precise banknote guidance: Banknotes must be stacked flat and compactly inside the device without tilting, to prevent note jams.
- Reliable in-device sealing: The weld or seal seam must close reliably and verifiably inside the device under defined parameters (pressure, heat, time).
- Process compatibility at the CIT company: Neat stacking reduces the effort for unpacking and aligning notes in the cash centre to a minimum.
Technical features of DEBASAFE® autocash
Debatin continuously develops the safe bag range together with device manufacturers (OEMs) and cash-in-transit companies. The developments are protected by patents and registered designs.
- Device-specific die-cut geometries: Contours and suspension points matched to the device type ensure an accurate fit in the note receptacle.
- Robust film composites: Highly tear-resistant polyethylene co-extrusion films (LDPE co-ex) with defined sliding friction – optimised for automatic feeding and for mechanical stress at maximum filling.
- In-device sealing technology: Designed for device-internal heat sealing or automated self-adhesive sealing.
- Volume-optimising side gussets: Allow a high note capacity with an evenly flat base for orderly note stacking.
- Traceability: Sequential numbering, barcodes (1D/2D) and optional RFID transponders for consignment tracking in track-and-trace systems.
Tailor-made thanks to in-house special machine construction
As a manufacturer of security packaging with its own machine construction department, Debatin does not just produce standard formats but adapts welding, die-cutting and converting tools to the designs of individual device types. DEBASAFE® autocash is designed for systems from established manufacturers, including:
- Deposit safes and smart safes, e.g. for back-office deposits
- Cash recyclers and automated checkout systems
- Note deposit modules in banks and retail headquarters
Because banknotes are stored in an orderly way in DEBASAFE® autocash bags, the effort required for note counting in the cash centre drops considerably. This can lower processing costs at the CIT company and permanently reduces process costs across the entire cash cycle.
Project expertise: verifiably secure supply chains
Debatin also delivers demanding security projects together with manufacturers, from requirements analysis and development through to use in the field. In cooperation with partners, this has resulted in a safe bag solution that is part of a secure supply chain (SiLKe) certified by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI).1 2 3 Debatin is happy to bring this experience to projects in which companies need to demonstrate the security of their supply chain, for example under NIS2 obligations. Debatin looks forward to new tasks of this kind.
Co-engineering: from design to field test
Debatin supports device developers from the prototype phase through to series production. In close coordination between device manufacturer, retailer and CIT company, Debatin determines feed parameters, film surfaces and sealing times. Configurations are validated in practical field tests under full load.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
What is a tamper-evident cash bag?
A tamper-evident cash bag, also known as a safe bag, is a sealable bag for banknotes that makes mechanical, thermal or chemical opening attempts permanently visible. Versions designed for smart safes and deposit safes, such as DEBASAFE® autocash, are sealed directly inside the device.
Who manufactures safe bags for smart safes and deposit safes?
Anton Debatin GmbH, based in Bruchsal (Germany), develops and produces tamper-evident safe bags for smart safes, deposit safes and cash recyclers under the DEBASAFE® autocash product line. Each bag is manufactured to the exact specification of the respective device manufacturer.
How does automatic sealing work in a cash recycler?
The empty DEBASAFE® autocash bag is hung into the device. As soon as the maximum number of notes is reached or a cash collection is triggered, a device-internal mechanism, e.g. thermal welding, seals the bag fully automatically inside the secured safe compartment. Service staff only ever remove the bag once it has been sealed.
How does DEBASAFE® autocash differ from standard cash bags?
Conventional safe bags are filled by hand and closed with an adhesive strip. DEBASAFE® autocash is mechanically designed for installation in machines: the bag has precisely die-cut suspension points, special sliding properties to prevent note jams and materials designed for automatic sealing inside the device.
Where can business customers buy tamper-evident safe bags?
B2B customers such as safe manufacturers, retail and hospitality companies, banks and cash-in-transit companies obtain DEBASAFE® autocash directly from the manufacturer, Anton Debatin GmbH. In addition to standard formats, Debatin offers custom-made versions.
Who produces safe bags for deposit safes in Europe?
Anton Debatin GmbH produces safe bags for deposit safes, smart safes and cash recyclers at its site in Bruchsal, Germany. The company has been manufacturing security and specialty packaging since 1923 and has its own special machine construction department.
